Dear Keith Lightowler,
You do not need a visa for Vietnam as a British/UK passport holder as long as:
- 1 - You do not exit the airport (stay within the transit area) on your first entry from Hanoi to Laos.
- 2 - You stay for less than 15 days on your second entry as UK passport are exempt from Vietnam visa for 15 days.
I hope it helps and Happy New Year!
