Do Italian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam?

Italian citizens are eligible for a 45-day visa exemption in Vietnam. However, specific requirements must be met:

  • You need to hold a passport that remains valid for at least six months after the arrival date in Vietnam.
  • The passport must have two blank pages for the visa stamp. 

If you intend to stay in Vietnam for more than 45 days or participate in non-exempt activities, such as working or studying, a visa is needed.

How to apply for a Vietnamese visa on an Italian passport

Visa at the Vietnam Embassy in Italy

You can obtain a Vietnam visa at the Vietnam Embassy in Italy or neighboring countries. The following documents are required for the application process:

  1. A valid original passport with at least six months beyond the intended entry date to Vietnam.
  2. A completed visa application form, which can be downloaded from the embassy's website or obtained in person.
  3. One recent passport-sized photo.
  4. Payment of the visa fee.
  5. Once the application is submitted, wait for the approval and then retrieve the visa at the embassy.

Apply for e-visa online

If you are planning a trip to Vietnam for either tourism or business purposes, you can apply for a Vietnam e-visa, which permits a single entry and a stay of up to 90 days. Here are the steps to follow for the application process:

  1. Visit the Vietnam e-visa website at https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/ and complete the application form, including all the required information.
  2. Upload a recent passport-style photo and a scanned copy of the biographical page of your passport.
  3. Pay the fee of 25 USD.
  4. If approved, you will receive your e-visa via email in about three working days.

Apply for a visa on arrival

Italian passport holders traveling by air and arriving at one of Vietnam's international airports can obtain a visa on arrival. Follow these steps to obtain the visa:

  1. Obtain a visa approval letter from a reputable visa agency in Vietnam.
  2. Pay the visa approval letter processing fee online using a credit or debit card and wait for the letter to be sent via mail.
  3. Upon arrival at one of Vietnam's international airports, such as Noi Bai or Tan Son Nhat, present the visa approval letter, your passport, and two passport-size photos. Then, pay the visa stamping fee and receive your visa.

Hey I’m an Italian living in Berlin and going to Vietnam for 15 days. When in Vietnam I will be flying within the country from Hanoi to Da nang and then from Da nang to Saigon. For all these criteria am I still exempt from needing a VISA? Thanks

I am going to Vietnam in two weeks. I find all different information online, but it is not clear to me: Do I need a VISA as an Italian citizen traveling to Vietnam in October 2023? I will stay less than 30 days in the country!

@Chiara Favaretto, Italian passport holders do not require a visa for a 45 day stay in Vietnam. Therefore, if you plan to stay for 45 days or less, you do not need a visa.

I have to come in Vietnam and I forgot that last time I went to vietnam was less than 30 days. I’m Italian. Me and my wife have the flight from Bangkok at 14:25, is it possible to have an invitation letter at around 12:30 tomorrow? If yes how much for 2 people?

@Francesco, It is not possible to get an emergency visa approval letter for now. We recommend that you gor for the expedited e-visa service, which will allow you to obtain an e-visa around 1:00 PM tomorrow.
